Pastor Brian Kom

Pastor Brian Kom was born in 1967 in Toledo, Ohio. Three years later his family moved to Grant Park, Illinois. Four years later his family moved to Big Bend, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee, where they have lived ever since. Pastor Kom's father has retired as the pastor of Christ Lutheran Church there. Pastor Kom has two brothers and four sisters.

Pastor Kom attended the Lutheran Elementary school in Big Bend before going to Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee. To begin preparing for the ministry he attended Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin, graduating in 1989. He then attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin, graduating in 1993. After graduating from the seminary Pastor Kom was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had successful surgery to remove the cancer and has been cancer free since. Upon graduation Pastor Kom was assigned to serve St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. In July of 1997, Pastor Kom accepted the call to serve Ascension Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Pastor Kom married Angela Joy Hansen on June 12, 1994. Angela grew up in the Winona and Lewiston areas. She attended Rochester Community College and then Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee.  The Lord has blessed Pastor and Angela with four children.

Pastor Kom absolutely loves being a pastor at Ascension; there is nowhere else he'd want to be.

Pastor Brian Semrow

Pastor Semrow was born in Milwaukee, WI in December of 1986. He lived in Milwaukee until age 10 when his family moved to New Berlin, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee, where his parents (Jeff and Linda) still live today.

Pastor Semrow attended Lutheran elementary school at both Gloria-Dei Bethesda (Milwaukee) and Good Shepherd’s (West Allis). Already at a young age, Pastor Semrow had a desire to serve in the public ministry. After completing 8th grade, he left home to attend high school at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI. After graduating LPS in 2005, he went to Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN (’09). From there it was on to 4 more years of study at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. During his 3rd year of seminary, Pastor Semrow was called to serve as vicar (intern) at St. Matthew, Port Washington, WI. He graduated WLS in 2013 and received his call to serve here at Ascension Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Pastor Semrow has a younger brother (Josh), and sister-in law (Holly) who currently live in Port Huron, MI. Pastor Semrow enjoys following all of his favorite sports teams (Packers/Brewers/Badgers/Bucks) very closely, catching a game or two when he can. He also enjoys being involved with the music at Ascension, whether it is singing or playing his saxophone for the monthly contemporary service.

As pastor of youth, fellowship, and evangelism at Ascension, Pastor Semrow has the pleasure and privilege of training up the next generation of God’s people, gathering God’s people together to build friendships, encouraging one another, serving the community, and introducing visitors and non-members to the life changing promises and truths of God’s Word.

Pastor Semrow looks forward to having you visit - To get to know you personally and to share with you the good news of sins forgiven through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
